The Revenant Culture

Frequently Asked Questions

Why "The Revenant Culture"?

A "revenant" is one who comes again, specifically either as an undead revivified by spirit, or more commonly, as a ghost appearing in human form.

Esprit d'un(e) défunt(e) censé revenir de l'autre monde pour se manifester aux vivants sous une apparence humaine. Personne qui revient effectivement.
Personne qui revient après une longue absence et sans être attendue.

Also, we are Sufjan-dorks. From Concerning The UFO Sighting Near Highland, IL:
"When the revenant came down
We couldn't imagine what it was
In the spirit of three stars
The alien thing that took its form
Then to Lebanon, oh God
The flashing at night, the sirens grow and grow
Oh, history involved itself
Mysterious shade that took its form
Or what it was, incarnation, three stars
Delivering signs and dusting from their eyes."

Does that explain it?

How often is the tree-made edition published?
Once every six weeks/twice a quarter.

Where can I pick up copies?
Ideally at The Silver Chair bookshop. But coffeeshops, small businesses, and churches all over the Greenville area will have them available. If you would be willing to help with distribution, please email us. We also offer a free to-your-door subscription, which you can sign up for by clicking on one of the tabs above.

Oh how I long with copious tears for a community of artists I can bare my soul to in the worst tradition of the Romantics! Any ideas?
The Silver Chair has a growing community of artists gathering around it, and also hosts events such as poetry nights and art discussion groups. Other groups, such as The Caleb Group or The Leviathan (DevilFish) Project, tend to hover around The Silver Chair, so you could ask them.

What is your editorial policy? What sort of submissions do you accept?
We accept absolutely anything as a submission, from absolutely anyone. Visual art must render well in black and white for the print edition. Our editorial policy is purposefully nebulous (i.e. nebulous on purpose, and nebulous with purpose), emerging as a sort of aggregate vision from all the folks at The Revenant Culture. Each of us has a robust idea of what art is and should be, but we are hoping that if we wiggle our fingers at each other enough, The Revenant Culture will organically develop an editorial personality of its own based on all of us. We all like people like Umberto Eco, Flannery O'Connor, Mark Tansey, and T. S. Eliot. Also, we believe that art may and even should be offensive, but art that is made strictly to shock is stupid. So don't bother sending in that coprophilic prose poem you wrote that one night in Des Moines. Yes, we know about that.
