I know what you're saying Mark. Chris Koelle, the artist we interviewed in podcast 13, made the same point. He's most fulfilled when he's making art that he enjoys.
I guess the dynamic that frustrates me so much is when an artist then doesn't acknowledge the masses (or tiny niche groups) that enjoy (consume?) their work.
You and I both know that The Raconteurs absolutely love their fans. I was probably just acting out a little bit on this podcast because I was feeling wounded.
If you cut me, will I not bleed?
Uh...

I will listen to podcast 13 right now then!
That dynamic frustrates me as well. The fact is the bigger an artist or a band gets the less they show appreciation for their fans. why is that?

Another great podcast guys, although I would have to disagree with you about artists making art chiefly for the people. I feel most importantly the artist needs to make art for himself. If he is not pleased with or doesn't enjoy his own work, how can he expect his audience to feel differently? Not to say that he shouldn't care about his audience, but there needs to be the right balance between the two.
anyway keep up the good work.
